Mr Wizard's Frozen Custard and Yogurt Takeaway. Mr. Wizard's ice cream lacked the magic I'd hoped. 5.0 / 10 ice cream score means I won't be coming back to Hogwarts. The custard lacked flavor and texture. The custard was cold on a hot day but didn't offer much else. $4.03 for a concrete, $3.02 for my kiddie sundae, or $4.12 for a pint makes it affordable for St. Louis. But you get what you pay for.
Service was serviceable. They had a single person taking orders and then a team fulfilling them. They have another window where you can pick up your order. We were second in line. It took maybe five to ten minutes to get the ice cream, so no problem there. They have a dedicated parking lot with a ton of parking off Big Bend.
Mr Wizard's Frozen Custard and Yogurt Experience Summary
We stopped by Mr Wizard's with the kids in tow after a haircut for some soft-serve ice cream. Mr. Wizards promised a cool treat on a hot summer day, but our experience was unexpectedly lackluster.
The vanilla soft-serve custard, in particular, was underwhelming. It didn't have much in the way of texture or flavor.
While my kids enjoyed their concretes enough, but even the chocolate chips couldn't save mine.
On the bright side, it's really affordable for St. Louis. Places like Clementine's or Jenny's offers a considerably better product at a considerably higher price point.
For some reason, frozen desserts continue to be the lowest scoring food category in all my travels around the Lou. I put Mr Wizards in the same kind of lackluster category as Skeeters and Gelato Di Riso. The average score barely breaks a 5, never mind cross the restaurant quality 7.0 Flood Line.
I would stick with Ben and Jerry's over what Mr. Wizards has to offer.
The Food At Mr Wizard's Frozen Custard and Yogurt
The main attraction at Mr. Wizards is their soft-serve ice cream. Unfortunately, the vanilla flavor was disappointing and didn't meet my expectations. It was edible, especially from the kids' perspective, but not something I'll be eager to revisit.
It was $3.02 for my kiddie sundae and $4.03 for my kids' concretes. My son got a chocolate cherry concrete that he enjoyed, but still lacked any deep flavor in my opinion.
I would pour on the toppings next time. The affordably priced concretes with a couple of toppings might push the overall experience over a 6 if you're looking for a frozen treat on a summer day.
Mr Wizard's Frozen Custard and Yogurt Atmosphere And Miscellaneous
Despite the shortcomings in the ice cream department, Mr. Wizards does have a few redeeming qualities.
The service was notably friendly and efficient. The setup is straightforward, with one window dedicated to taking orders and another for pick-up. With only one person ahead of us in line, our order was ready within five to ten minutes.
The outdoor picnic tables under umbrellas offered a shady spot from the sun. They also had a fun Instagram wall my kids had fun playing with. They also made a game of climbing on the fence, so it's most definitely kid friendly.
Parking At Mr Wizard's Frozen Custard and Yogurt
Thanks to their dedicated parking lot, parking at Mr. Wizards was a frosty breeze. Accessing the lot was straightforward, but I opted for taking a side street out to make the left onto Big Bend easier.
